Your Comfort Zone Called … and it wants you to stay right where you are

When most people talk about why they haven't started their wellness business yet, the word that comes up the most is overwhelm.

"I'm overwhelmed by the tech."

"I'm overwhelmed by all the advice."

"I'm overwhelmed and I don’t know where to start."

But what if the problem isn’t actually overwhelm?

What if the true problem is that building a business is forcing you way outside your comfort zone. So far outside that every time you try to take action, your nervous system says no bloody way, mate.

Maybe this sounds familiar …

You stare at your screen. You continuous play with your logo. You ask everybody you know people for feedback on your business name. You join seven Facebook groups for new business owners and you follow twenty five coaches on Instagram to ‘get ideas’.

You feel busy. But the truth is you’re actually not moving forward.

And that my friend, is a comfort zone issue.

The Truth About Starting a Wellness Business

If you’ve been googling things like ‘how to start a wellness business’ or ‘new health coaching business’, chances are you’ve already been hit with more information than you know what to do with.

And while strategy and systems absolutely matter (btw, I teach that!), the real thing holding you back is the silent, overthinking, nervous system part:

"What if I stuff it up?" "What if people laugh at my offer?" "What if I build something... and no one wants it?"

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. It’s because we’re hard wired to stay safe. To stick with what’s familiar. To wait until we know everything before we make a move.

And that doesn’t always serve us. Especially if your plan is to start or build your own business.

Because your business isn’t going to move forward unless you embrace feeling a little edgy. A little nervous. Even a little scared.

In case you haven’t heard, life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

But that doesn’t mean you need to dive off the edge and hope you nail the landing.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone—The Goldilocks Rule

Most new wellness business owners try to do too much, too fast, completely solo.

They leap instead of step.

And when that leap doesn’t work—or it’s way too scary—they retreat back to where things feel safe and easy.

So, instead of trying to escape your comfort zone in a huge dramatic move, instead focus on how to get out of your comfort zone gradually.

James Clear calls this The Goldilocks Rule—the sweet spot where something is just hard enough to be challenging, but not so hard that it causes panic or shutdown.

And this sweet spot is where all your growth and confidence is hanging out! Here you get to make hard decisions without spiralling! It is where you actually get your wellness business moving in a way that feels good (instead of making you panic).

Take A, for example. She’s a nurse turned health coach who said this:

"Going from working in a roster-based hospital system to running your own business is HARD! What excites me is being able to be flexible and do what I want to do as a business owner. What scares me is that there’s no one else telling me what to do. I have to figure that out myself."

This is exactly what I hear from so many of my clients. They’re not lacking passion. Or skills. Or a genuine desire to help people.

They’re just sitting at the edge of their comfort zone, frozen.

Don’t Take a Giant Leap

When people try to leap too far, too fast—they often end up right back where they started. Not because they’re not capable, but because they’ve tried to go to far, too soon and without support.

Psychology Today has broken down the benefits of discomfort when it comes to personal growth—showing that stepping outside your comfort zone can increase focus, boost creativity, and help you build the confidence to take on even bigger challenges.

The trick? Don’t leap too far and …

Seek Support

Because edging outside your comfort zone is a whole lot easier when you're not doing it alone.

Support during this time isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Having someone to guide you, answer your questions, and remind you you’re not crazy (or stupid, or broken) makes all the difference.

That’s why I created The Essentials Program—to help new wellness business owners finally move forward.

Inside the program, we:

  • Walk through the essential tech and systems step by step

  • Build the foundations of your business

  • Get you out of the never-ending cycle of doubt and into action

And the most important part? We do it in a way that slowly expands your comfort zone—instead of smashing it to pieces.

Because confidence isn’t built by taking huge leaps off cliffs. It’s built by showing up, step by step, and realising you can do hard things afterall.
